Cat Urine Removal

If you are a cat owner, you understand the distinctive odor of cat urine. It is a stench that can make your nose cringe and leave a lasting impression. Cats may urinate outside of the litter box for many reasons including urinary tract infections, stress, dirty litter boxes, medication side effects, or some type of emotional trauma. It is important to address the issue but eliminating the odor is also important for the scent free living of both you and your feline friend.

Follow these steps for cat urine removal:

Step 1: Locate the area where your precious feline sprayed or urinated.

If the area is dry and hard to locate, you can use a fluorescent black light bulb. When the light is shined upon the affected area it will appear as a yellow/white splatter. You can find black light bulbs online at Amazon.com or at brick-and-mortar stores such as Wal-Mart and Home Depot.

Stet 2: Dilute the cat urine area with water and blot with towel

Once you’ve found the cat urine spot, pour warm water over the area to draw out some of the locked in moisture. Blot the affected area with a paper towel or rag. You want to absorb as much of the urine as you can before applying a cleaning product. Getting as much of the urine out is imperative to cat urine removal.

I are really obliged to your work.

Step 3: Apply cat urine removal product to area

Thoroughly saturate the affected area with the cat urine removal product. Let sit for about 5 minutes or follow the instructions on the label. You can use homemade remedies, but we suggest using a bacterial/enzyme cleaner from a pet store. The professional products are made to destroy both the cat urine odor and the stain.

Step 4: Cleanse the area with warm water

The final step to is apply more warm water to the area. Blot the area again with a towel and then let it air dry. Once the the spot is dry, then you should vacuum the area thoroughly.

That’s it! You have completed the cat urine removal process! If the cat urine odor and stain is still there repeat the steps above.

Some other cat urine removal tips:

  • You will have the best results if you clean the soiled areas as soon as possible. As soon as you notice the smells, identify the source and clean it up. This will ensure that the smell doesn’t get too deep into the surface.
  • NEVER USE A CLEANER THAT HAS AMMONIA IN IT! The ammonia smells similar to cat urine and could encourage your cat to continue to eliminate in those areas making it hard for cat urine removal
  • It’s not a good idea to use carpet shampoos or other household carpet cleaners that are not specifically for pet messes. Most of the pet mess cleaners are made with an enzyme base, and using shampoos will weaken the enzymes making it harder to remove the urine.
  • Once the spot is clean, place a citrusy scent air freshener in the area. The citrus effects the cat’s nose and they will not want to be in that location. You can also put their food and water dishes in the soiled area. Due to the fact that cats are very particular they will not eliminate where they eat.

Cat urine removal is an easy process and much like cleaning any other stain out of carpet. Kitties, just like humans, have accidents, and it is important to address the actual issue at hand, but when the smell sneaks up on you, always remember that cat urine removal isn’t so bad and can have you smelling roses fast.
